Protect You and Your Loved Ones this New Year’s Eve and Hire only Licensed Car, Van & Limo Operators
Long Island Limousine Association Launches Unlicensed Operator Tip Line
(Saint James, New York) – In a matter of public safety, the Long Island Limousine Association (LILA) is alerting all New Yorkers to only hire licensed car, van and limousine operators for New Year’s Eve, and LILA is taking it a step further by launching an unlicensed operator tip line.
Legally licensed vehicle operators require background checks, driving record reviews, and registration with its respective county’s Department of Consumer Affairs, and New York State Department of Transportation, ensuring drivers have the necessary requirements to operate a vehicle safely. They are often held to higher standards of conduct and customer service, providing a more professional and reliable experience. Perhaps the greatest benefit of hiring a licensed operator is that they are required to maintain adequate livery insurance coverage, protecting you and your loved ones from potential liability in case of an accident.
Unfortunately, unlicensed operators are infiltrating social media pages, including “mom groups,” and unsuspecting residents are hiring them. These types of posts are frequently responded to across social media platforms with recommendations of unlicensed operators. Unlicensed vehicle operators can put you at serious risk. They do not carry proper livery insurance, are not required to comply with a background check, and are not required to carry safety equipment such as fire extinguishers. If there is an accident the passenger has no recourse.
You can report unlicensed vehicle operators by calling the tip line at 631-944-8448 or by emailing ContactLILALongIsland@gmail.com.
“The Long Island Limousine Association wishes you a happy and most importantly a safe New Years Eve,” said LILA President Tom Gouldsbury, of Azure Limousine. “You and your loved ones can be protected, but only if you hire licensed driver operators to take you where you wish to go. Enjoy these special occasions the right way.”
“Whether its New Year’s Eve, or you’re being transported to the airport or other destination, don’t be fooled by the growing number of posts on social media that can leave you with no recourse in the event of a bad experience,” said LILA Vice President Charles Gandolfo, of Dynasty Limousine. “By hiring licensed car operators, you are guaranteeing a higher level of safety, accountability, proper insurance coverage and other protections for you as a passenger.”
“When you hire an unlicensed operator, you are putting you and your loved ones at risk by not always having an idea of who your driver really is, or what their driving record is like,” said LILA 2nd Vice President Jim Powers, of All Star Limousine. “All of LILA’s member companies are here to put your safety first.”
LILA is proud to have the support of the Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center (PFML/CVC) in their public awareness campaign for hiring only licensed car service operators. This not-for-profit organization is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child, sexual abuse, and rape, the provision of services to victims of violent crime, and elderly, disabled and minor victims of all crime.
“I want to thank the Long Island Limousine Association for all their efforts to educate and call on all New Yorkers to hire only legally licensed car operators,” said Laura Ahearn, Executive Director of Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center. “I applaud LILA’s unwavering commitment to requiring training, fingerprinting and background checks. Our organization commends them in their mission to provide residents with this extra level of comfort and protection to ensure family safety.”
