The Long Island Limousine Association (LILA) is urging residents to hire only licensed car, van, or limousine operators this New Year’s Eve to ensure their safety during the holiday and beyond.. The group announced the launch of a tip line for reporting unlicensed operators during a press conference on Friday, Dec. 27, at All Star Limousine in Lindenhurst.
Babylon Town Councilman Anthony Manetta joined LILA members at the event, emphasizing the importance of public safety not only during the holiday season but year-round.
Tom Gouldsbury, president of LILA and owner of Azure Limousine, said many unlicensed operators are using social media to solicit customers who are likely unaware that the driver they are hiring is not licensed.
Gouldsbury said, LILA members are fully insured, with coverage up to $1 million. He encouraged customers to verify that the vehicle they are hiring is properly licensed, noting that one telltale sign is that the license plate should not resemble those on personal vehicles.
“We want to make the public aware, especially during the holiday season, to ensure their safety,” Gouldsbury said. “Licensed operators have high standards of service and also have first-aid and emergency training.”
LILA Vice President Charles Gandolfo, of Dynasty Limousine, also cautioned against relying on unverified services. “Don’t be fooled by the growing number of social media posts,” Gandolfo said. “By hiring licensed operators, you guarantee a higher level of safety, accountability, proper insurance coverage, and other protections for yourself as a passenger.”
