Limo association launches unlicensed operator tip line

The Long Island Limousine Association (LILA), a professional organization with more than 70 member companies, has launched a new tip line to report unlicensed drivers.
The effort comes amid holiday season, when the organization is urging people to hire licensed operators to get to the airport, celebrations and other destinations. According to LILA, this approach can put safety first.
“When you hire an unlicensed operator, you are putting you and your loved ones at risk by not always having an idea of who your driver really is, or what their driving record is like,” LILA 2nd Vice President Jim Powers, of All Star Limousine, said in a news release about the initiative.
To ensure safety, legally licensed vehicle operators require background checks, driving record reviews and registration with either the Nassau County or Suffolk County Department of Consumer Affairs, and the New York State Department of Transportation. Licensed operators are also required to maintain adequate livery insurance coverage, protecting passengers from potential liability in case of an accident, according to LILA.
Before passengers get into a vehicle, they should view its license plate, which should read “T&LC” or “Livery” to be a legally licensed operator.
Reports to the tip line at 631-944-8448 or ContactLILALongIsland@gmail.com will be received by the Long Island Limousine Association and passed along to authorities for further investigation, according to LILA.
